2012 Ford Ranger T6 launched in Malaysia!

An eye-opening event I would say for the Ford Ranger T6 launch event in Bukit Kiara Equestrian Club. I can see Ford put a lot of effort in making the event successful and enjoying. There were steel frames around the indoor arena, and my first thought was the decoration of the venue is not completed. But I found out that it is actually the theme of the night after spending some time exploring the venue.

Ford is an America-originated company, thus the settings and even food were influenced by it. Popcorn, hotdog, corn, nachos (had it for the first time in my life!) etc, the usual food you'll notice in American movie or drama.

Trying out something which I don't even know what its name is!

Showcasing were the predecessors of Ford Ranger, ranging from Ford Courier, Splash (in yellow, the first Ranger debuted in Malaysia in 1999) to newer Ranger models.

From left, the emcee of the night, Shamser; Mohd Hazem Abd Rahman, Managing Director of Sime Darby Auto Connexion Sdn Bhd; and David Westerman, Regional Manager of Asia Pacific, Ford Export & Growth Operations.

The unveiling of the Ford Ranger was done in an impressive manner. First, a blue Ranger (no, not Power Ranger!) rammed through a 'wall' to show off its toughness, followed by a silver one.

Then the 3.2L Ranger Wildtrak appeared in orange, but wait... it was towing something!!!
The Wildtrak had actually towed a bus into the arena!!! Something was misleading though. The bus was carrying a numberplate writing '14 tonnes' while the Ford Ranger's maximum towing capability 3350kg. I suppose it was to make the Ranger look tougher!

The Wildtrak carries a 3.2litre diesel mill which churns out 200PS and 470Nm of torque while the smaller 2.2litre diesel engine has 150PS and 375Nm of torque. While both variants get standard kits like ABS, EBD, EBA, Load Sensing Proportional Valve (LSPV) and dual front SRS airbags, the Wildtrak variant get extras such as Adaptive Load Control (ALC), Electronic Stability Programme (ESP), Traction Control System (TCS), Hill Descent Control, Hill Launch Assist, Roll Over Mitigation and Trailer Sway Assist and dual side curtain airbag. With the generous amount of torque available in the Wildtrak, all these safety features are essential to help control the beast in my opinion!

White and blue Ranger...

Casio watch-inspired dashboard, very tough looking indeed.

As for the selling price, the 2012 Ranger T6 2.2L manual, 2.2L auto and 3.2L Wildtrak are priced at RM89,888, RM95,888 and RM116,888 respectively, all OTR with insurance.

A notable performance by the Ford Ranger stompers! They brought the house down! I am looking forward for the launch of the all-new Ford Focus (hope I'll get an invite for it *puppy-eyes*) and wish it will be as awesome as this event!

Another highlight of the day was the announcement of the winner of the Ford Ranger challenge. The winner (below) walked away with a brand new Ford Ranger 2.2L! See how happy the couple was :)

The top five contestants of the Ford Ranger challenge! Everyone didn't walk out empty-handed!

It's nice to see Ford is so generous in giving gift to the medias. When I was handed a bag as goodies bag, I was told not to drop the bag because there is an expensive stuff inside. I thought the representative was joking, but it turned out to be true! A Casio G-Shock watch and a Ranger pendrive. Very thoughful. Thanks Ford for the early birthday present :)
