The D-segment Honda Accord is available in Malaysia with 3 variants - 2.0 VTi, 2.0 VTi-L and 2.4 VTi-L. The 3.0 litre V6 Accord is absent for this time though. The overall design resembles its 6th-gen (taillights) and 8th-gen (front and side profile) predecessors, but with sportier and more contemporary lines. The overall dimension has been reduced by a little, its overall length is 4780mm (-80mm), overall height of 1465mm (-10mm), 2775mm wheelbase (-25mm) but is wider by 5mm at 1850mm. Although the overall length and wheelbase is shorter now, Honda created an extra 35.5mm of rear legroom and 23 litres more boot space with better interior packaging!
The 2.0 litre i-VTEC engine is taken from the 8th-generation Accord, but with slight improvement (+10%) on fuel efficiency. Power rated at 155PS at 6500rpm and 190Nm of torque at 4300rpm. The 2.4 litre, however, is a brand new Earth Dreams i-VTEC engine capable of producing 175PS at 6200rpm and 225Nm at 4000rpm. Both powerplants are mated to a 5-speed gearbox. Steering now is electric-powered, and is integrated with the car's Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), which is generously available in every variant.
The Accord now is equipped with Active Noise Control (ANC) and Active Sound Control (ASC) that cancel out unwanted noise entering the cabin. This would solve the road noise problem in its predecessor.
Other standard features for every variant are Hill-start assist, daytime running LED lights, front parking sensor, auto headlights, dual-zone air-cond, two screens on the dashboard and rear air-cond vents. 2.0 VTi-L get additional cruise control, keyless entry with push-start button, Bluetooth, 8-way electric powered driver seat with lumbar support, black leather seats, reverse camera and intelligent dual-zone climate control. Plenty of goodies for a 2.0 Accord! 2.4 receives more such as auto-levelling LED headlights, steering paddle shifter, auto-dimming rearview mirror, premium sound system with subwoofer and 18-inch wheels.
2.4 also get 4 airbags (2 in other variants) and Honda Lane Watch where you can have a 80-degree view of your left on the screen when you flick your indicator. This is only available on the left side because, well, the screen is at your left.
Price wise, the 2.0 VTi is selling at RM140k, which is cheaper than its predecessor by RM3k! 2.0 VTi-L is RM150k while 2.4 VTi-L is RM173k, all on-the-road with insurance. 5-year warranty is available with a 10,000km service interval. This is seriously giving Camry and other contender in D-segment a run for their money!
